Porter had a whopper of a day yesterday! We couldn't believe all he accomplished!
Milestones:
- off belli lights
- removed art line from belly button
- removed iv from left hand (finally a free hand! poor guy had iv's in both hands & both feet :( )
- 2 full days he has been off the ventilator
- First feeding a breast milk (in a tube of course, but the nurse let me hold in while it went in)
- First time on his belly- which he loved! (now that the lines are out of his belly button they are able to let him have belly time!)
- MOMMY GOT TO HOLD HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME!
- DADDY GOT TO KISS HIS HEAD FOR THE FIRST TIME!!
He also had a PIC line put in. It goes in his arm & up right close to his heart. It helps them give him nutrition & a better place to give him meds.
(This is called Kangaroo Care. You remove all you clothes waist up & hold them against your skin. It helps them maintain their body temperature & if they can get comfortable it is very much encouraged to help them feel close to mom & it is very soothing for them to hear your heart beat, like they did in the womb!)
When they are so small every little thing makes a big difference. His incubator has a controlled temperature & humidity to keep him comfortable, as well as they try not to move him more then necessary.
